  • This practice has become an entertaining aspect of the Lion Dance

  • It typically employs the use of lettuce, as it is believed to bring prosperity.

  • ​In Cantonese,“柑” sounds like gold and “橘” sounds like “吉” , which means auspicious. They both hold favourable meanings. 

  • ​In the recent years, this practice has been modified. The inviting party often request for the lion to peel the new year's mandarin oranges and come up with auspicious numbers.
